So the U.S. and UK governments are both expected to sign a treaty in October which will make every social media platforms based in either of this countries to provide encrypted messages from terrorists or suspected terrorists to police.

U.S set to begin sharing social media chats with police

Right now the police of both countries have restricted access to user data from tech companies based in either country.

The UK Home Secretary Priti Patel is expected to soon sign the access agreement which is said to be followed by “intense lobbying” by the UK to gain more direct access to data which is been held by U.S based platforms like Facebook and whatsapp.

The question on everybody’s mind right now is if this agreement requires the companies to build backdoors on their products, which is something that most law enforcement agencies have been wanting.

If this backdoors are actually created, it could actually be discovered by hackers and used to exploit users. According to FacebookWe oppose government attempts to build backdoors because they would undermine the privacy and security of our users everywhere.”
