So it the first time this is happening, the unbeaten Netflix has finally met it match after it was dethroned as the top grossing, non-game app of 2019.
One of the major reason for Netflix downfall was the change it made in December to to stop paying the “Apple tax” which led to new Apple users being unable to signup and subscribe to their services.
Would you believe the change cost Apple hundreds of millions in revenue, and also it top spot as number one which they held since 2016.
Netflix earning for 2018 was reported to be $853 million on IOS app store, which was a 30 percent cut of about $256 million. It was reported that Netflix in Q1 of 2019 pulled in a whopping $216.3 million globally, across both the Apple App Store and Google Play, down 15 percent quarter-over-quarter from $255.7 million in Q4 2018.
Meanwhile on the other side Tinder was just climbing like it was no body’s business. Firts it saw a revenue growth of 42 percent year-over-year which led to it $260.7 million, up from $183 million which then put them at the top of the chart.
While in the top downloaded non-game app section the winners were. WhatsApp, Messenger, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, SHAREit, YouTube, LIKE Video, Netflix and Snapchat.
Tiktok is another one app that have managed to hold it position after the app saw a user growth of 70 percent year-over-year with the addition of 188 million in Q1.
TikTok also did well on the revenue side thanks to in-app purchases, though not well enough to start ranking in the top charts. User spending was 222 percent higher in Q1 2019 versus Q1 2018, reaching an estimated $18.9 million worldwide.
The Apple’s app store was said to have contributed 64 percent of the totalrevenue in Q1, it got consumers spending of $12.4 billion compared to Google play’s $7.1 billion.
