On Saturday we witnessed some wonders in Geneva as the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 6300A was sold in an auction.
Rumors had it that the watch was gonna sell for around $20 million, but all man was stunned when the watch sold for a massive $31,194,370. (Just for a watch)
The sale made the watch the most expensive watch ever sold in the world, a rank which was previously held by Patek Philippe’s Henry Graves Supercomplication which sold for $24 million.
There have been other iterations of the Grandmaster Chime which includes a $2.5 million Ref. 6300G which was made out of white gold. There is also the Ref. 5175R that comes with an 18-karat rose gold.
So what exactly is it that made the Ref. 6300A so expensive? Well for starters, the dial of the watch was said to spell out “The Only One.” Plus there are only a few people in the world willing to splash such amount on a watch.
