So i guess we all remember the WannaCry ransomware which infected lots of computers around the world.
Security researcher marcus Hutchins is popularly known for helping stop the spread of the ransomware in 2017.
In a statement the researcher said “As you may be aware, I’ve pleaded guilty to two charges related to writing malware in the years prior to my career in security.”
He went on to say that “I regret these actions and accept full responsibility for my mistakes. Having grown up, I’ve since been using the same skills that i misused several years ago fo constructive purposes.”
Hutchins was charged with the development and dissemination of UPAS-Kit and Kronos malware. Hutchins was apprehended by the FBI in 2017, just a few months after helping to stop the malware attack.
As of right now he is on bail and is currently residing in los Angeles for the mean time ahead of a trial scheduled for later this year.
