This buttons makes it easier for us when trying to access a bulilding, but the buttons can be a pain in the butt for some wheel-chair users who don’t ot have a limited upper body movement.
A new startup has just come out to solve that problem, Portal Entryways. They’ve built a device that piggybacks on top of existing access buttons, allowing these doors to be opened automatically and kept opened when a wheelchair user approaches.
The device comes with a bluetooth low energy-embedded hardware that clings to the existing door opening system, and an app that runs on the wheelchair user’s smartphone. So how it works is really simple, when the wheelchair user approaches the door the app searched for thoses low energy bluetooth devices and when it finds one, it connects to it and sends it a message to open the door and keeps it open until the wheelchairer😉 passes through completely.

The startup are soon gonna be reaching 250 installs, and are hopeful of hitting a contract for around 1,250 devices by the end of the month. As at the time of writing, installations were being done by the founders who say different doors require different buttons and motors.
