So online security platform Cloudfare, has just announced that they are ditching 8chan after the El Paso mall attack.
The attack which occurred on Saturday involved a 21-year-old male who opened fire in a crowded mall in El Paso, Texas. A total of 20 people were reported dead during the attack and 26 injured.
A couple of hours after the attack, security authorities found a written manifesto left by the shooter on 8chan prior to the attack. This drew a lot of concerns towards the site because this is not the first time a manifesto has been posted on the site prior to an attack.
According to Cloudfare’s CEO Matthew Prince, the online security platform is terminating 8chan as a customer and with immediate effect. This is gonna leave the site vulnerable to all sort of attacks.
But not to worry, the Founder of 8chan Fredrick
He went also say that “whenever I hear about a mass shooting, i say, All right we have to research if there’s an 8chan connection.”
Fredrick Brennan resigned from the site since 2016 and the site has since then been controlled by Jim Watkins and his son.
Responding to Cloudfare’s withdrawal from the site, Ron Watkins, son of Jim Watkins tweeted “All our Domains have been removed from Cloudfare, so we will be moving to another service asap. Please excuse any downtime as we migrate to the new service.”
