So google has finally admitted that it made an error in not not disclosing that one of it home alarm product contained a microphone. the Nest guard product specifications never mentioned it included a mic since 2017, although this month they said they would make Nest-Guard controlled.
On twitter Nest owners were told that “the feature has not been used up till now”(ya like we are supposed to believe that) The Nest Guard is one component in the Nest Secure range of home security products. The system includesvarious sensors that can be monitoredremotely by the user.Nest Guard is an all-in-one alarm, keypad, and motion sensor but, despitebeing announced well over a year ago, the word “microphone” was only addedto the product’s specification this month(so practically the Nest have been listening to our conservation!!).
“The on-device microphone was never intended to be a secret and should have been listed in the tech specs. That was an error on our part.” they also went on to say “The microphone has never been on and is only activated when users specifically enable the option( ya, right😂).
As we all know Nest, a company known for its smart thermostat, was acquired by Google inFebruary 2014, for a reported $3.2bn (£2.5bn) insane right. This report comes days after singapore Airlines faced criticism for installing cameras at the back of some of it plane seat as part of a new in-flight entertainment system.
