So Germany has officially opened it first ever “eHighway” that powers and charges hybrid trucks on the move.
The eHighway was commissioned on Tuesday near the city of Frankfurt, the hybrid trucks are powered and charged by overhead c ables that provide 670-volts direct-current which recharges the trucks batteries.
To make a successful connection the truck has to be moving at a speed less than 56 miles per hour, and when successfully connected it runs completely on electricity.
The new tech is said to save trucks $22,000 cost of fuel. The project costs a whooping €14 million plus an additional $77 million for Volkswagen to make a special hybrid truck for the track.
