Chernobyl’s Radioactive Reactor 4 Control Room Is Now Open For Tourists

So the radioactive control room at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Reactor 4 has been officially opened for tourists, given that they wear a protective suit, gloves and helmet while going in.

Chernobyl now open for business

The Chernobyl tour agency also confirmed it saying that the control room is now available for guided walks. Anyone who enters the control room must afterwards undergo two radiology tests to measure their amount of exposure to contaminants.

The control room and Reactor 4 has been a notrespassing zone for years now, the radiation in the room is said to be 40,000 times higher than normal.

In 2011 the control room was stripped of its plastic switches by decommissioning staff but some things like diagrams and some wiring is still remaining.

According to Sergiy Ivanchuk, director of SoloEast tours “many people come here, they ask a lot of questions about the TV show(Chernobyl ministries), about all the events. People are getting more and more curious… During the entire visit to the Chernobyl exclusion zone, you get around two microsieverts, which is equal to the amount of radiation you’d get staying at home for 24 hours.”
