And now Google has just reported that they have removed another 25 apps from the play store after Symantec discovered that they also contained malware.

The worrisome part of this is the fact that these apps have been downloaded over 2.1 million times.

Here is how these malicious apps works, first when the app is launched with the malicious code in it, it displays a full-screen ad.

This ads keeps displaying even when the app is closed and thereby you can’t indicate which app is triggering the ads.

Almost all the apps taken down by Google all did the same thing which made Symantec believe that these apps must have been created by one organization.

The way they also publish these apps is very tricky. The organization releases two versions of the same app, one benign and one original. The original and malware free version may rank high in the play store but when you search for the app manually, you get a 50-50 chance of downloading the ad-triggering version.

With this wave of malicious apps been found in the play store questions are beginning to come up whether Google is actually still safe.
